LOCATION &  DIRECTIONS TO THE TRYST

   The Nilgiris is in Tamilnadu State at the confluence of the three southern states of India -- Tamilnadu, Kerala and Karnataka, closer to the west coast and the Arabian Sea. It is situated in the Western Ghats (Mountain ranges) that stretch from below Bombay to Cape Comorin.

Directions from Goa

   Travellers from Goa can catch a flight either to Cochin or Bangalore and drive up to Coonoor, 8 hours either way.

Directions from Chennai

   Travellers from Madras can catch the convenient overnight train to Mettupalayam

  (about 9 hrs) and come by road to Coonoor (1.15 hours) or take the Mountain Railway from Mettupalayam to Coonoor (3.30 hours). The alternative is to fly to Coimbatore (1 hour) and drive for 2.15 hours to The Tryst.

Directions from Coonoor

   It is the only guest house on this side of town, away from the hustle and bustle. Take Mount Pleasant road which goes up opposite the Coonoor town level crossing for 1 km via Tulsi Mall to Moores Garden (Grace Opticals) and take the left fork that goes down for another 1 ˝ km (There is a red post box at the fork). You will end up at the Tryst.  The key words are 'Doctor's Guest House, Carolina via Moores Garden'. (The locals don't know The Tryst.)

   We can arrange pickup from Ooty, Mettupalayam or Coimbatore. 

Climate

     A pleasant 9 to 27C.
     Rainy season -- Oct to mid-Dec.
     It gets chilly in the nights between  mid-Dec and mid- Jan, but we do have electric blankets.

     Foreign Season time - September to March
     Local season time -- April, May. Expect crowds.
